Weekend News: Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing, and sunny long weekend with their friends & family! It was starting to feel as though summer wasn’t going to come, but we finally made it up to Ossipee Lake– a place that’s quickly become so special to me.

I also want to say I am so grateful for all the men and women who serve/served our country. I salute each and every one of them. I wish I could have spent the day with my favorite veteran, my dad, but at least I’ll see him in a few weeks! Cheers to you, daddy-o!

We spent our long weekend lounging on the boat, drinking lots of wine, and playing badminton & cards. It isn’t a lake weekend without badminton and card games! (Just for the record..the bf & I were whist champions and are undefeated in Kan-Jam)

Now that the weekend is coming to a close I’m feeling a case of the Sunday Scaries coming on.. but at least it’s already Monday! (Still pass that rosé though, pls.)

Current Events: A Bachelorette Weekend

After a total of 4 hours and 15 mins in a car & 1 hour and 20 mins on the Cross Sound Ferry, I arrived to this view. This was the backyard of our Long Island paradise for the weekend. WORTH EVERY MINUTE OF TRAVEL. Well what was really worth the trip was seeing my family and new friends for my cousin’s bachelorette weekend! My cousins who used to live Massachusetts now live in DC, San Diego and Charleston so getting together is extra special.

My cousin Kayla and her friends got there before we did, so they kicked Kayla out of the house (with a margarita in hand) and set up the kitchen like something straight out of a Pinterest board. I was so excited since it was my first bachelorette in forever! (…come on friends, can more of you get engaged please?)

It was only fitting that we started the party with chips and guac since that night we went to Lucharito’s Taqueria & Tequila Bar. (Probably my 4 favorite words, btw.)

This place was so fun and the perfect spot to begin the festivities. The drinks were amazing and so were the tacos. Maybe the best part though was how the bartender looked EXACTLY like Lucas Grabeel from High School Musical. Not even lying, they could have been twins. It was so bad to the point that I brought up a Google image of Lucas and our waiter saw, cracked up laughing, and brought it over to show the fake Lucas at the bar.

After a little smooth talking with “Lucas” we got this tequila shot for Kayla and she was surprisingly a hero at taking it (love you Kayla but this surprised me).

Anddd let’s just fast forward to Saturday morning..

We had the BEST breakfast all provided by the bride to be. Scrambled eggs, avocado toast, bacon, every kind of berry you can imagine, and homemade pb & oat balls.

All of a sudden we realized we had under an hour before the limo showed up for our day of vineyard hopping!!! (Okay wine tasting sounds a bit classier and is probably more appropriate).

As you can imagine with 8 girls, 3 vineyards, LOTS of wine…. I didn’t take the best or most organized pictures of our day so I will just leave you with a picture diary of sorts…

Stop 1 of 3- Pugliese Vineyards. BEST CHARDONNAY EVER (and I’m a red wine girl). 2014 Reserve. Get it.

To summarize the limo:

  1. Lots of Biebs
  2. Lots of throwback jams
  3. Bags on bags of wine bottles purchased throughout the day.
  4. Classic games about the bride that my cousin Hannah (maid of honor!) organized about Kayla/John. Her fiancé’s answers were pretty hysterical **How did the two of them meet? 😉
  5.  And of course of lots of snaps.

After a perfect day of wine tasting, we ended the evening back at the house in the only way acceptable.

With CAKE.

Safe to say I’ve been dreaming of this lemon cake 🍋with lemon zest frosting 🍋 non stop.. Thanks Kayla.

Can’t wait for your wedding, beautiful!!!!

In Health News: Who’s Tried Bulletproof?

As Queen Regina George once famously said, “I really wanna lose 3 lbs”.  While this might be true (hi, beach season right around the corner) it’s not the only reason I wanted to try Bulletproof.

Since junior year of high school I have been plagued with stomach/digestive issues that no amount of doctor visits, elimination diets, acupuncture, blood work, meditation, you name it have been able to cure. More on this in a similar post coming later this week!

Per usual, one day I was researching different lifestyle approaches (not necessarily “diets”) and came across an in depth article about Bulletproof. I had heard about this adding-butter-to-your-coffee fad before and never gave it a second thought. Butter and I are not friends, as dairy and I do not mix well together.

However, after reading just about every article written by Dave Asprey on his site,  I learned what the Bulletproof approach was all about. It’s so much more than butter and coffee. Well for me, there’s no butter- there’s ghee which is actually clarified butter and lactose free. Going Bulletproof can help with brain fog, get people out of diet ruts/plateaus, give you energy, and can help get rid of that base layer of fat (!!)

If you’re interested, I’d strongly suggest heading over to the Bulletproof website and reading up for yourself!

BTW: I am totally not affiliated with Bulletproof in any way, I just feel the need to share this! I wish I was BFF’s with Dave though.. I think biohacking could be for me.

Basically, I’ve been trying the Bulletproof version of Intermittent Fasting. This means I stop eating by 8pm at night, then wake up and have nothing but my Bulletproof coffee until 2pm the next day. This was a major change for me as I am usually allll about my morning superfood smoothies!

The coffee is a mixture of Bulletproof coffee, ghee, and Bulletproof Brain Octane. Their beans are clean, mold-free and make the smoothest cup of coffee I’ve ever had. Read more on his website about the sourcing if you’re curious.

The Brain Octane is basically this magic oil that suppresses your hunger signals, clears brain fog, and helps your body run off of fat! (Sounds a bit like what Lindsay Lohan told Regina George in Mean Girls now that I think of it..)

The ghee is a healthy form of pure fat that keeps you satiated and able to function, work, etc and it doesn’t even feel as though I’m fasting.

By day 3 I was already feeling less bloated! This is like a miracle for me.

It’s been 2.5 weeks now, although I have fallen off the wagon on the weekends, and I am really liking how I feel.

I think I’ll do an update on this later but I wanted to share and see if anyone else has traded their breakfast for Bulletproof coffee? I would love to hear about how you feel and how it’s working for you!

Girls Gone Derby

One of the only good things about your closest friends living in separate cities is the chance to go visit them. So that’s what we did. 2 of us from Portsmouth, one from Goffstown, NH and one from NYC all ventured to Boston for a girls weekend.

Let me just say that 24 doesn’t feel quite like 21 #hangover.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Boston so I know I’m late to the game.. but we went to Loco Tacqueria & Oyster Bar in Southie for a pre-Derby brunch. I’m now obsessed with this place.

I got the BEST spicy margarita to date. It was called The Little Devil and it was amazing. I mean.. it had a Tajin rim <333

I will 100% be going back to Loco. The sign above was outside the restaurant (way too accurate) and their instagram is full of other clever sayings that they put on their sign.

After some serious brunching it was time to get ready for the Kentucky Derby Party.

I ended up wearing my go-to Susana Monaco dress. Anyone else obsessed with the material of these dresses? You can’t really tell in the picture but it’s actually navy blue and has side pockets.

We went to Tia’s to watch the Derby and thankfully the weather ended up cooperating. I had never been there before either- it was sort of an outdoor/indoor bar and was a great time.

It was a Boston weekend well spent and I can’t wait for more to come this summer!

I’m back.

So I did that thing that you’re not supposed to do. I had a blog since about… 2011? I would post a lot at the beginning and then fall off the wagon. For a while I was going strong and then a lot happened in life- graduated college, graduated again from graduate school, moved, started a new relationship, you name it- so I stopped posting completely.

Well here I am in 2017, living a totally different life. So I deleted every old post I had (gasp!) and decided to start from scratch. I just feel like I can use this platform for something different and I wanted a clean slate. I feel like some people think it’s morally wrong to delete old posts? Welllll, too bad.

Cheers to starting fresh!
