Current Events: Girls Weekend!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! (And happy Father’s Day to all the papas out there!!) My weekend really started Friday morning since my firm had it’s summer outing– sailing in Boston Harbor for the morning! Any work day where I’m not in the office is a win.

Then I drove straight to my hometown in NH and met up with my BFFs from high school. 5 of us girls (last together in Boston a month ago) met up at Catie’s house and had an old fashioned sleepover. Catie is home from NYC for her sister’s high school graduation (CONGRATS EM!!) and we were recruited to bring the fun for her graduation party on Saturday.

Friday night we went to La Carreta and celebrated being together again. How else to cele but with gigantic margaritas a Mexican food because.. is there really any other way?

Fast forward to Saturday and basically, Catie’s mom is a picture-perfect Pinterest board IRL. She is beyond chic and creates the most stunning parties for every event. We couldn’t stop telling her that she needs to write a book, plan events, etc. She is magical as you’ll see from the following snapshots of the day.

The “Burger Bash” for Em was outside in their amazing backyard. I mean any party called a Burger Bash is bound to be a hit, right?

Picture homemade sangria, fancy lemonade for the kiddos, the chicest popcorn ever, pulled pork, chips & salsa (aka my weakness, someone hold me back) and of course, lots and lots of burgers. And I don’t mean frozen patties. We witnessed Catie’s mom/party extraordinaire hand forming and WEIGHING 64 perfect patties the night before. I mean… she doesn’t do anything half way.

I didn’t even know there was a way to display toppings in a pretty way?

And if you didn’t know which kind of burger you were feeling.. there were suggestions on display.

Her mom makes the most gorgeous ornaments and sells them on her Etsy page too! Link here if you’re interested!

You could find me monitoring the sangria section.. The fresh grapefruit slices were just calling my name. I’ll just leave you with a few more pictures (including the dessert buffet featuring homemade lemon squares aka crack). I got a little snap-happy.

It was a perfect day to celebrate Em and be with all of my best friends who I hardly get to see anymore. And seeing her mom in action as a domestic goddess definitely makes me want to step up my hostess game..

It finally felt like a summer weekend, and a perfect one at that ❤

Local Eats: The Martingale Wharf

Last night was date night! Double date night to be exact. It feels like forever since we’ve gone out to eat in Portsmouth, especially with friends, so last night felt even more special.

The bf and I headed downtown about 45 mins before we were scheduled to meet our friends & we grabbed some drinks and an appetizer outside on the deck. I’m not talking just any outdoor seating, the deck at the Martingale Wharf has the dreamiest views in town. They also have the coziest and chicest fire pit tables that keep you comfortable even when it gets chilly on the water. Sadly, they only had one of these tables out last night and we didn’t get there in time to get one. Looks like we’ll have to go back soon..

I had the rosé (dry only,  never sweet) and the bf had the usual- jack & ginger. In a strange turn of events, he ordered a salad as an appetizer and I ordered the french fries?

Definitely not my typical order, but somehow these fries are abnormally good. I probably don’t want to know why.. ignorance is bliss, right? Plus they come in a cute little basket so I feel like somehow this changes the fact that they’re still deep fried potatoes.

When my best friend (since 4th grade!) and her bf arrived, we got a table inside and continued drinking the date.

On one side of the restaurant, “the lounge”, the bar seats are right against the window and you feel like you’re hovering over the water. I don’t know what it is but there is just something about the water views here that I will never get enough of.

My go-to meal at the Wharf is the lobster roll, but last night the surf & turf caught my eye. And I was not disappointed.. I mean.. (I know, I know, more potatoes)

Everyone else’s food looked so delish too.

If you’re on the seacoast I highly recommend the Wharf for date night, lunch, or brunch!! (My favorite activity ever)

Or bonus: go to date night and then go back for brunch in the morning? You can’t beat a bloody mary here while enjoying these views. I’m telling you from experience ❤

Weekend News: Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone had a fun, relaxing, and sunny long weekend with their friends & family! It was starting to feel as though summer wasn’t going to come, but we finally made it up to Ossipee Lake– a place that’s quickly become so special to me.

I also want to say I am so grateful for all the men and women who serve/served our country. I salute each and every one of them. I wish I could have spent the day with my favorite veteran, my dad, but at least I’ll see him in a few weeks! Cheers to you, daddy-o!

We spent our long weekend lounging on the boat, drinking lots of wine, and playing badminton & cards. It isn’t a lake weekend without badminton and card games! (Just for the record..the bf & I were whist champions and are undefeated in Kan-Jam)

Now that the weekend is coming to a close I’m feeling a case of the Sunday Scaries coming on.. but at least it’s already Monday! (Still pass that rosé though, pls.)

Current Events: A Bachelorette Weekend

After a total of 4 hours and 15 mins in a car & 1 hour and 20 mins on the Cross Sound Ferry, I arrived to this view. This was the backyard of our Long Island paradise for the weekend. WORTH EVERY MINUTE OF TRAVEL. Well what was really worth the trip was seeing my family and new friends for my cousin’s bachelorette weekend! My cousins who used to live Massachusetts now live in DC, San Diego and Charleston so getting together is extra special.

My cousin Kayla and her friends got there before we did, so they kicked Kayla out of the house (with a margarita in hand) and set up the kitchen like something straight out of a Pinterest board. I was so excited since it was my first bachelorette in forever! (…come on friends, can more of you get engaged please?)

It was only fitting that we started the party with chips and guac since that night we went to Lucharito’s Taqueria & Tequila Bar. (Probably my 4 favorite words, btw.)

This place was so fun and the perfect spot to begin the festivities. The drinks were amazing and so were the tacos. Maybe the best part though was how the bartender looked EXACTLY like Lucas Grabeel from High School Musical. Not even lying, they could have been twins. It was so bad to the point that I brought up a Google image of Lucas and our waiter saw, cracked up laughing, and brought it over to show the fake Lucas at the bar.

After a little smooth talking with “Lucas” we got this tequila shot for Kayla and she was surprisingly a hero at taking it (love you Kayla but this surprised me).

Anddd let’s just fast forward to Saturday morning..

We had the BEST breakfast all provided by the bride to be. Scrambled eggs, avocado toast, bacon, every kind of berry you can imagine, and homemade pb & oat balls.

All of a sudden we realized we had under an hour before the limo showed up for our day of vineyard hopping!!! (Okay wine tasting sounds a bit classier and is probably more appropriate).

As you can imagine with 8 girls, 3 vineyards, LOTS of wine…. I didn’t take the best or most organized pictures of our day so I will just leave you with a picture diary of sorts…

Stop 1 of 3- Pugliese Vineyards. BEST CHARDONNAY EVER (and I’m a red wine girl). 2014 Reserve. Get it.

To summarize the limo:

  1. Lots of Biebs
  2. Lots of throwback jams
  3. Bags on bags of wine bottles purchased throughout the day.
  4. Classic games about the bride that my cousin Hannah (maid of honor!) organized about Kayla/John. Her fiancé’s answers were pretty hysterical **How did the two of them meet? 😉
  5.  And of course of lots of snaps.

After a perfect day of wine tasting, we ended the evening back at the house in the only way acceptable.

With CAKE.

Safe to say I’ve been dreaming of this lemon cake 🍋with lemon zest frosting 🍋 non stop.. Thanks Kayla.

Can’t wait for your wedding, beautiful!!!!

Girls Gone Derby

One of the only good things about your closest friends living in separate cities is the chance to go visit them. So that’s what we did. 2 of us from Portsmouth, one from Goffstown, NH and one from NYC all ventured to Boston for a girls weekend.

Let me just say that 24 doesn’t feel quite like 21 #hangover.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Boston so I know I’m late to the game.. but we went to Loco Tacqueria & Oyster Bar in Southie for a pre-Derby brunch. I’m now obsessed with this place.

I got the BEST spicy margarita to date. It was called The Little Devil and it was amazing. I mean.. it had a Tajin rim <333

I will 100% be going back to Loco. The sign above was outside the restaurant (way too accurate) and their instagram is full of other clever sayings that they put on their sign.

After some serious brunching it was time to get ready for the Kentucky Derby Party.

I ended up wearing my go-to Susana Monaco dress. Anyone else obsessed with the material of these dresses? You can’t really tell in the picture but it’s actually navy blue and has side pockets.

We went to Tia’s to watch the Derby and thankfully the weather ended up cooperating. I had never been there before either- it was sort of an outdoor/indoor bar and was a great time.

It was a Boston weekend well spent and I can’t wait for more to come this summer!

I’m back.

So I did that thing that you’re not supposed to do. I had a blog since about… 2011? I would post a lot at the beginning and then fall off the wagon. For a while I was going strong and then a lot happened in life- graduated college, graduated again from graduate school, moved, started a new relationship, you name it- so I stopped posting completely.

Well here I am in 2017, living a totally different life. So I deleted every old post I had (gasp!) and decided to start from scratch. I just feel like I can use this platform for something different and I wanted a clean slate. I feel like some people think it’s morally wrong to delete old posts? Welllll, too bad.

Cheers to starting fresh!
